It’s been a morbid few months, weeks, days… Still here I am trying to pick up the pieces of my life… It’s been a few months, but it seems like it’s been an eternity since I’ve been on my bike, ran my usual daily miles or had my weekly swim practice.
I honestly don’t even know if I am interested anymore…That’s probably the depression talking nonsense in my ear… These things use to be my go-to stress relievers, my daily aims, to be better than the day before…. and now… my shoes are hanging there gathering dust. My goggles have dried out, and I don’t even know where my biking helmet is anymore. I’ve been saying for the longest time, “I’m gonna get a new one next week”.
Next week just doesn’t seem to get here…yet!
I’ve noticed that I have like 8 drafted titles from my 2014 Roadtrip to write, upload and publish… I will likely get there… One Day… (those magic words)
In the meantime… patience is all I need… I’ll be back… not yet… but I will….
I’m late with my travel logs, I know. Procrastination has gotten the best of me. It’s 5:02am, and I am awake after the longest day in my life…I am horribly broken beyond repair… My life will never be the same… My Gladiator died yesterday, as I stood watch over his body… While out for his morning run, my father was ran over by careless drivers, while being on the sidewalk… To My Gladiator: I will see you again, but not yet. Not yet!
My trip to SFO begins on a Sunday with a 9 hour flight and 1 short layover in MIA. After a small upgrade at check in, to be more comfortable in cattle-class; the MIA-SFO leg is a bit longer and a little comfort (aka leg space) is MUCH appreciated, we leave the island.
I have divided my adventure in about 8 chapters, yet to be written. Before I start, I want to share with you the most important part of the trip, entertainment, because conversations can only go so far. My road-trip songs, carefully selected and screened for this particular trip. It’s about 73 songs, not all to my liking but I do have a travel partner and he too needs something to listen, sing to….
I also have a sing-along playlist, that I will reveal at a later time. In the meantime, enjoy the music as I go and write my travel journey….
Coming up soon, this year’s adventure road trip will take us around the great state of California. Starting with a long flight all the way to SFO, a few days at our home base, and then off to a 3+ week of nothing but road, and side stops. I have a list of about 100+ things that I want to do and see along the way…
We’ll start in San Francisco, and then the road will take us to:
Let’s start with the best part of the summer. Now as I have stated before, I admittedly have a huge fear of the open water. I will swim in the ocean as long as I can feel the sand beneath my toes, visibility is clear for miles, and there are minimal waves, preferably none. The cause of this fear you might ask? Ahhhh the joys of being a teenager, and the not-so-wise choices we make. It started an early morning 10+ years ago. As we arrived at school, there was a scheduling issue with classes on that day. Instead of waiting for the issue to be cleared up, we skipped school and went to the beach. It was those one-of-a-kind days, where the usually quiet and calm sea turned into a raging monster, with abnormally high waves. Which of course, we decided to take on. Long story short, I came an inch away from drowning, and ended up in the ER with a concussion. And as it turned out in the following years, a fear of waves and open waters.
Now I proudly present to you numbers 32+33 off the Bucket list!
32. Go scuba diving 33. Go snorkeling in a shipwreck
It was pretty awesome, quiet, calm and unless you look up, you do not even notice how rough the waves are above your head.
Before taking down number 126, I went to a local baseball game, which surprisingly, I enjoyed a lot. Something that will definitely happen much more now.
It’s been months since my last post. Then again, that happens when you get caught up in life and the wrapped speed that everything moves nowadays…I even forget there for a minute that I had a plan and even worse a blog to tend to…
Sitting the night away behind my lovely LULU, (or the iMac) selecting songs for my next trip and it hits me… I might as well write… and update my blog.
As you have noticed, I’ve been absent for a while. Partially, I’ve been unmotivated, lazy, and stubborn. The other part was me being on vacation. I was sleeping the past week on the beach in a tent, it’s something that my inlaws have been doing for the past 30+ years during easter week.
